Craft Number Two – Lanterns

On my bucket-list there is a few things to do, there is one task to make two crafts this year! I can’t believe that this one is already done and dusted. I was on a youth camp and we did a craft, I sat with the kids and decided to make one of my own.

It is very simple, all you need is:

An empty can (bakebeans, peas or a sweetcorn-can)

Whiteboard markers

A hammer

A nail

You get the design you want in your head, then you draw it on the tin with the whiteboard-marker. You take the nail and hammer and follow the lines of your design. As easy as that.

Nothing beats the natural beauty of Nature around us. For me its the best place in the world, is to be somewhere, outside surrounded by nothing more than fresh air and greenness where you look. I find peace in the sounds of nature and find it a good place to do some soul searching. This picture I took lying on the green soft grass of Brokhortspruit, listening to the sounds of the river and the insects brewing in the distance. There is no better place to find yourself, as the place God provided for us, Mother Nature.

A few weeks ago, I decided to make a bucket list that I want to have completed within twelve months. One of the things was to make two crafts and so far I have actually made one. I was very impressed with myself at the end of the day! I took a deck of playing cards, printed and then pasted, a reason on each card saying why I thought a special person in my life is so amazing! The gift worked out so great in the end, it cost me R10 for the box I presented the gift in, the rest of the gift was just hard work, some creative ideas and some love.

Change can come in many shapes and sizes, when you live in Cape Town the biggest change comes when the Season’s change. Here we always have a wet winter and a very cold one at the same time, Sunday we were still walking in shorts and tank tops and today its officially storming outside. I think the winter officially dropped into Cape Town this week. I think it is skipping Fall and jumping right to the point!

With the change in season’s comes the change in our personal lives too, when summer approaches then everyone is looking forward to the sunny days at the beach and everyone tries to get into shape before the summer really slams us. When winter is approaching we can start to see everyone’s mood sink slightly and you can look forward to movie nights at home, eating soup and pancakes and don’t forget about the cups of milo being drunk over the course of the winter. For some reason the Capetownians forget how to drive properly and road-rage becomes more common. The smell of popcorn and the smell of wet grass, the sound of a warm fire prickling in the background. I personally love the change winter brings…I am for sure, a winter baby!

Bucket list to complete within 12 months

The past weekend gave me time to rethink a few things and I realised that I don’t always get to do things that I have set out to do. I have always had a bucket list, however the things on there is things I want to accomplish in life, not random things I have wanted to do for a few months now and never get there. My advice to you is, set out a 12 month bucket list, the goal is to complete the list within 12 months, once its on, it stays on! You can add anything along the way. It helps when you live your life with small goals, helping you to get to the bigger picture one day. Keep your list in a file and keep the file updated, would be a nice gift to your kids one day. A gift to show them their parents didn’t have a empty life, life passes you by if you don’t keep track. Don’t forget to live, live each day to the fullest, you never know when God will come down and pick his next rose to take with him. Take photos and keep them in a album!

We are all walking on that one road in our life that comes to a slight bend ahead, you don’t always know what is around that corner. The best thing is to keep your head up, look forward, keep your eyes on the road and try to keep the car on path. You should never dwell on the past, rather look forward and be excited for what life has to offer.

When I think of Home, I do not think of my house in the suburbs, I think of the area I live in, CAPE TOWN. When I go out of town and I come back, when I look out the window of the plane and see the beautiful sight of Table Mountain, then I know that I am home. Its a sense of relief and calming thought when you come back from a trip and you touch down in the mother city. The most beautiful city in the world!

In Cape Town we have great sights to go and see, we have history that dates back to before the 1600′s and we have the best wine-lands in the world. We are home to the Cape Cobra’s the local cricket team and the Stormers and Western Province rugby teams. There are so many things that makes Cape Town unique!

I am glad and proud to call CAPE TOWN my HOME!

I was lucky enough to be chosen as Christo and Lisa’s wedding photographer, they were my first in the wedding side to photography and it was great fit for us both. I have known this couple for years now. I was relaxed when taking the pictures and Lisa was relaxed to know that a friend was there when she needed one.

Christo was Lisa’s first serious relationship and you can just see the love she has for him, when she looks at him. Some love story most people only get to read about.

Bliss

Bliss for each person has a different meaning, according to Wikipedia it means: Bliss is an emotional state that is characterized by perfect happiness (feelings of enjoyment, pleasure, and satisfaction).

For a old person in a old age home it could mean spending a day with her family and friends outside the walls of the home.

To a farmer it can mean to sell a harvest for a big profit.

A athlete it could mean to finally win the race he trained so hard for.

For me bliss is spending with these kids, planning a camp for them and seeing how much they enjoy it. To receive thank you notes from them and sharing a meal with them over a weekend and learning new games. I do not have kids of my own however I share in over a 100 kids lives while I am involved with the youth movement and each one of them crawl deeply in your heart. I am still young and still a kid at heart and there is nothing more beautiful than spending time with these bright souls.
